Villa Faria
A carefully restored country house in the southwest of the Island.
Off the road, behind banana plantations overlooking the second
highest cape of the world and the wide sea. Villa Faria is situated
on the sun favoured mountain ridge of Ponta do Sol, 300 m above
the sea.
The owner of Villa Faria is the village's carpenter "Maestro
Paulo". He cares for the bananas and papayas, produces some
wine and works on wood. The house comprises of a 22 sq.yd veranda
and a small roof terrace. In the house itself there is a well
equipped and relatively spacious kitchen (with table and two chairs),
living-room with cable-TV, two bedrooms for each two people, a
third bedroom with a single bed and the bathroom. You find a washing
machine outside the bathroom.
Ponta do Sol
is the region of Madeira with the most sunny weather. From Villa
Faria to the beach you go in three minutes by car. Restaurants
are nearby, as well as three supermarkets in the neighbouring
town Ribeira Brava. Rolls and bread for breakfast you can order
on the eve at the grocery near your parking space.
The next levada walk (walking path along a typical Madeiran water
channel) you reach within ten minutes by car. This walk leads
you deep into the unsettled canyon of Ponta do Sol. After a short
while you will hear only the birds and the bees and the murmuring
brook below.
