Quinta do Sao Lorenco

The estate Quinta do São Lourenço is situated in the west of the island where there is still little evidence of tourism. The rustic village Fajã da Ovelha is small and quiet. On 2000 sq.mts of terrain there are the unique and different holiday homes - all tastefully furnished in the rural style.

Senhor Emanuel has restored the old home of his grandmother and kept alive many of her memories: from the old stone oven in which grandma used to bake her bread, to the iron tether for horses on the housewall. But the well equipped kitchens, the delightful little pool with a dolphin mosaic, the bathrooms and the gardens meet all the needs of modern holidaymakers. The houses are cleaned regulary, and ample bed linen, towels, kitchen utensils and china are provided, as are a microwave, mixer, lemon squeezer, coffeemaker and kettle.
The houses are equipped with cable-TV and each enjoys a lovely sea view, some of them also having a breath-taking view of the steep, rocky coast below the village.

In the "Lagar" the old dividing wall was demolished to create a large combined sleeping and living area, as well as bathroom, kitchen and veranda. The short staircase from the upper floor to the kitchen is outside - so please excuse a few raindrops in wet weather!

The "Casa da frente" (front house) consists of two semi-detached houses, each with a bed room and bathromm upstairs, and living room downstairs. Each of these dwellings has a separate entrance. The very spacious kitchen with the old stone oven is shared by both, as is the veranda in front of the house.

The "Casa grande" is the former dwelling house of Quinta do São Lourenço. The upper floor comprises of three bedrooms with double beds and three bathrooms. Downstairs, Senhor Emanuel has removed the partition walls and reestablished the former kitchen-cum-living-room. Today the ground floor is a very spacious room for six or more people to enjoy a meal, to watch TV, to talk and sip some of our renowned wines. Like all the other homes "Casa grande" has a nice veranda. In front of the house you will find the small swimming pool and the lawn.
The centre of the village of Fajã da Ovelha which has a "mini-market", is only two minutes' drive away. A big supermarket, pharmacy, banks and post office are situated in Calheta, 15 minutes away. The nearest restaurant - named "Abyss" ("Precipício") - is only five minutes' walk away. In Paúl do Mar, Jardim do Mar and Calheta you will find many others.
Fajã da Ovelha is an ideal starting point for walking tours. The unique and beautiful "Laurissilva" near Rabaçal, Paúl da Serra, and the lonesome west of the island are all within easy reach. The Levada Nova passes by Fajã da Ovelha - you can actually start your levada walk almost in front of your holiday home! And if you want to enjoy a refreshing bath in the Atlantic ocean, there are plenty of possibilities to do so in Paúl do Mar, Jardim do Mar, or from the large sandy beach in Calheta.

Wireless internet is available to our clients at the pool area and in front of Lagar, free of charge.

The drive to Funchal is less than one hour, to go to the airport is about 90 minutes. It is highly recommended to hire a car (from EUR 21,- per day through Madeira-Holidayhomes).
